Methodology

ACA Framework Methodology

Understand how ACA develops, structures, and maintains compliance frameworks tailored to African regulatory and operational environments.

1. Purpose

The African Compliance Authority develops compliance frameworks tailored to the regulatory and operational contexts of African financial institutions. These frameworks provide structured, practical guidance supporting compliance system implementation, risk management, and regulatory alignment. ACA frameworks recognize the specific challenges of African markets—including limited data environments, informal sector characteristics, variable regulatory maturity, and institutional capacity constraints—while maintaining global compliance standards.

2. Framework Architecture

ACA frameworks are organized into four categories reflecting different aspects of compliance infrastructure:

Core Frameworks

Foundation frameworks addressing core compliance domains: AML, KYC, Operating Model

Analytical Models

Specialized frameworks for risk assessment and quantification

Identity & Ownership

Frameworks addressing beneficial owner identification and business verification

Country Frameworks

Localized frameworks adapting to specific country regulatory requirements

3. Numbering Convention

Each ACA framework receives a unique identifier following a standardized format:

ACA-AML-001
PrefixACA = African Compliance Authority
CategoryAML = Anti-Money Laundering (KYC, COM, RISK, UBO, KYB also used)
Sequence001 = Sequential number within category
